I've heard nothing but good things about Mike Kelly and his products. How in the hell did that bird's nest of wires ever pass muster????

Mike Kelly and his staff are just awesome! It really is something you have to experience in person. There are no attitudes, everyone works and strategies together. He has every tool and machine to attack anything that comes up. This thread would be too long to try to describe what was needed to be done to this bike just to get it running. Mike was quite surprised when they opened that box but the goal/phase1 was to have a running bike and hopefully for Bike week. Phase 2 was to bring bike back for re wiring, Mike tried really hard to get it done but it just didn't happen. Besides the oil pan leak, which needed a custom homemade gasket, the gas tank keeps clogging filter with debris even after rinsing with 15 gal of fuel and kerosene. Anyway it is in the best place to get fixed right.

The Wiring found was done before it ever showed up in Marco Island. Don't know who did it but I can tell you that they had NO business attempting it! Every Relay was glued to the lower wall of the electrical box and then they soldered the wires directly to the relays. There is no way to replace a relay without a MAJOR hassle. The wire that caused the Ignition module to pop was a 22ga wire stripped and twisted to a 14 ga wire that was then "insulated" with a wrap or two of electrical tape. That was the switched power wire that ultimately fed the Ignition Circuit. It was wire number 847 that was about 12" too long stuffed into the birds nest. It was folded over exposing bare wire as the electrical tape slid back. As they reached in looking for a switched hot to feed the new brake light switch, this wire was grounded to the base.
They had planned to redo the entire wiring harness as they knew it was bad, but had no idea it was THAT bad. Obviously the goal was to show up to Bike week with Organ Donor but fortunately this happened in the best possible place. If it had to happen, it was much better there than on Main Street, Daytona.
While the day ended rather disappointing, it was still a good one as we were surrounded by cool stuff everywhere we turned. That shop just Oozes with Horsepower and cool rides of ALL kinds :)

Update......
The aluminum box that will now house a 900 series battery (previously a 600 series), wiring, relays, etc is just about complete. It still needs to be highly polished and in the pics you can see the recessed marine grade fuse box into the top for easy access. The fan that cooled the transmission, located under the seat (which would have not cooled, but looked good), was removed and the lines relocated under the bike to a transmission cooler under the radiator. It's looking good and Mike Kelly says it looks better in person. I can't wait - should be just a week or two till I take delivery!! Petite, any chance you are down there? If so feel free to take a few pics and/or post your feedback - Thanks!!

Talk to me about that alternator. Looks dinky.
I always laugh at the guys who think they need big old 100+ amp alternators on their bikes to run a rudimentary electrical system. I'm going to dump my old Delco Chinese clone the next time it craps out. Probably will look at a Japanese unit from a small car. I had a Geo Metro unit here somewhere, but it went AWOL. Real small, 45 amps, I think. Plenty to run a two wheeled T Bucket

Carl, I am not sure on the alternator. I have never seen one like it on another Boss. Once the bike is in my possession, I'll get a closer look and report back. Maybe it just looks small because the engine is so big

She is finally home! Mike and his crew did a fantastic job bringing the bike back to life despite many challenges. It pulls a LOT harder than the 606 and rides very well. About 7k redline and it revs up very quick - a very noticeable difference between this and the other 502's and 606. Even going from air shocks and inverted front end to stock shocks and the old style FE, I can barely tell the difference. I was only able to take it for a few short rides so far due to the rain. Also, a special thanks to Dennis (Petite Moose) and his wife Lori for delivering the bike to my house. :yourock:
