Hiking in Chiricahua

Post by addicted08 »

About 2 hours east and south of Tucson is the Chiricahua National Monument. It is a really amazing park with the neatest rock formations and it has hiking trails.
I convinced Ron that hiking in this area would be the most awesome thing we have done yet and he agreed to go hiking with me. Our route was 3.3 miles long and was pretty rocky with lots of going down and climbing up. I had a ball!
When we first started out this is what the path looked like. We were thinking "piece of cake".

And of course the scenery was AMAZING!

Alot of the rocks look like they have been splashed with mustard or paint but it is actually moss.

We saw this neat formation on our path and Ron dared me to climb up in it (I think he was trying to wear me out), so I did.

The hike took almost 3 hours because of all the little side trips to get great pictures and to just stand and admire the view. It was worth every minute!

This is kind of a close up to show the texture of some of the rocks.

Looking down through a crevice.

This was probably the flatest, least rocky part of our path.

Here you can see that a lot of the rock formations appear to be one boulder stacked up on another and one has fallen off but is wedged between its base and the stack next to it.

I heard Ron wants to try a more challenging trail next time, that one was too easy.
