Having been out of the BH world for awhile now, was wondering what kind of tranny repairs are cropping up. Seems like Pete was having repeated problems with the bigger hp application.

I personally had 8 failures with Big Red but babying it and an improved gear set slowed things down as far as pulling it apart. Any planetary gear failures? What about reverse?

I recall you trying to destroy yours after you did the performance mods to your big block. Were you doing WOT shifts? Problems?

Seems there's not near the bitching as in the old days.

Hi Elliot... Pretty much the same old tune on the nesco trannies.... The main failures are the planetary.. Just not as often. There have been some improvements in the gear sets and lube so they are getting better but still the weak link. I have built all of Pete`s trannies now so we`ll see how they hold up. I`ve had good luck with mine. I shift it anytime I feel like shifting weather I`m crusing at 30 or WOT. I just don`t hammer it in 2nd without downshifting.

Tom, that's good to hear although I still wonder why Nesco or BH never went to a quality tranny/gear shop and had some real kick ass gear sets made? There are numerous things that can be done without it being a real big deal such as the tensile strength and metal used, cryo treating, etc. Just doesn't make sense or cents.

Hearing you're able to do a WOT shift especially with your motor sounds encouraging. That used to be a recipe for failure quite often. I suspect cooked clutches with heavy throttle in 2nd at too low a speed.

I'm surprised BH can continue to get away with it so to speak when considering there are other V8 mfgs out there with outstanding tranny reliability and performance. The weakest link in the chain 8 years ago and still today. I guess every piece of eqpt and every mfg has their achilles heel of one type or another.
