Cooling fan stop working.

Post by Gooch1963 »

Good day all, today on the way home my fan didn't kick in at all, temperature was up to 185 - 190 and still no fan. Can someone confirm where the relay is for the fan, I checked all the fuses and they are all good. So I'm starting with the relay, then temperature sensor then fan itself. Can some tell me where the relay is, I know where the sensor is I can see it under the right side forward on the engine but I can't locate the relay. If its the relay bolted to the original fuse box, I have already changed that and still NO fan. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think the fan relay is under the tank. Did you test the fan to make sure it is good?

Carl,

How do you check the fan? I will check it in the morning and post what I find resolves the problem.

What year is your bike, mine is a 01 and did not have a relay. The wires came threw the Rad. and went directly to the temp sensor. Check for power at the sensor and if the power is there jump the two wires together and the fan should turn on. Hope this helps.

Some bikes have a one wire sensor. Ground it and the fan should come on

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all the responses, my 2004 BH does have a fan relay, once I replaced that everything is back to normal, I will keep a couple of spares under the seat just in case it happens again, also moved it to a spot I can access without removing the tank.
