502 Owners,,, Why Your Motor Uses Oil,,,

Post by gaston 2005 502 »

i was reading the Scoggin Dickey Performance Parts handbook yesterday and came across an interesting tidbit about 502's and oil consumption.
Here is the reprint (without the express written consent of the author i might add)

things you should know about 502's
All 502's built since their inception during the mid 80's have used a unique ring combination of 2.0mm / 1.5mm/4.0mm. The factory installed oil ring is a low tension ring. It is used to reduce frictional horsepower losses. Oil consumption is a natural characteristic of this type of oil ring. When it is time for a "freshen up" on your 502, we recommend and sell the Speed-Pro high performance file fit ring set which includes a standard tension oil ring for improved ring sealing and oil control. R-10575-006,,,,,,,,, H/P 502 ring set,,,,,,, $229.95

Scoggin dickey has a good performace parts catalog free of change. page 19
