holley drips fuel from the primary throttle shaft ...

Post by alex »

when bike is on its sidestand and running, i can see fuel very slightly dripping from the primary throttle shaft...

when the bike is upright, i have asked a friend to look and there is no dripping.

those carbs are designed to be perpendicular to the ground. is it ok to leak when tilted, or do i need to replace throttle bushings? (there are bushings/o-rings there- right?).

also, can my manifold be getting false air through the throttle shaft(s)?

just wondering...

First, welcome to this site! What carb do you have?If you have Holley it might float a bit when your bike is on the sidestand. There are no seals on the throttle shaft (Holley). You should not worry about air leak thru the throttle shaft.

when you say "float problems" what do you mean? the floats not floating right/smooth and flooding the bowls?

also, when you rebuild the carb - did it still leak from the throttle shaft when bike is tilted?

from what you are telling me there is nothing to rebuild there (at the shafts) - right? so how come it made a difference...

i am somewhat unclear as you can tell

After long winter here i have had floating probs because needle is stuck ,and then it leaks. It normally starts to work when i just do gently "hammering" on the top of the needle ,but when the needle is worn you got to replace it.When you put rebuild or trick kit you just put new needles (+acc pumps and gaskets),not bowls.I have had no leaks after rebuilding.

You can try to adjust your fuel level little lower, that might help.

Sorry my bad english! Floating problem=flood=flow over
