If you are ever in Tucson you gotta check this out....
Ron and I are in Tucson again and as usual have been out exploring. We went to the Pima Air & Space Museum and even took the bus tour over to the "Boneyard". It was really interesting and the bus tour had a guide that told us all about what we were seeing. First we went into the museum to check out the displays there.
This is the Bumble Bee, it is the smallest functioning airplane ever built.
A display of engines.
This helicopter looks kinda scary to me, I certainly would not have wanted to leave the ground in it!
This one looks a little better. Gotta love the face on it.
There was quite the variety of aircraft in this part of the museum.
This is what the engine looks like in the aircraft.
I think it takes a special kind of crazy to test fly some of these things!

Here is some more pics of what we saw...
This plane is so big that it has 3 tires on its landing gear.
And a parachute to slow it down on landing.
There were seveal Seaplanes displayed, this one looked the weirdest.
Bullets.

Here we are on the bus tour of the Boneyard. It really is huge.
The containers in the foreground have engines in them and you can see more planes in the background.
More containers of engines.
This is one of the strangest looking planes in the Boneyard.
A helicopter. The white stuff on it is sray on latex that protects it from the elements and can be peeled off when they are ready to put it back in service.
Jets, one is the Blue Angels jet.
This one is for Harold Blocker, its a Voo Doo.

like that Stealth fighter, so stealthy you can't even see it. Great to see y'all in Daytona.

I grew up right next to the old Lockheed airstrip, which is now Bob Hope Airport. I can still hear the sounds of the inertia starters and those big old Pratt and Whitney and Curtiss-Wright radials coming to life. Today's jets are fine, but lack the soul of the old warbirds.

Haha! I was hoping folks would catch that pic of the Stealth Fighter. I thought it was funny on the tour! Good to see you and the Mrs. too.

These are some small planes used for training sitting next to the big planes.
Here are a couple of big planes.
A row of tail sections at the Boneyard.
More planes.
Here you can see how big the cargo planes are when one sits next to a row of helicoptors.
This plane is being parted out. They take any usable parts off of some planes to fix up others. That's the spirit of recycling!
More planes. The Boneyard is HUGE!

After the bus tour of the Boneyard we were taken back to the museum and we went in the get some lunch at the Flight Grill. After we ate we went outside to see the planes displayed on the museum grounds.
I'm not sure why this one was painted like this, maybe it's Art.
While we are walking around looking at all the different planes and helicoptors I see this big white hump sticking up above the smaller planes and I'm wondering what the heck is it?
And then we got around in front of it.
The sign says it is a Super Guppy but it looks more like a Beluga Whale to me!
There wasn't a sign to tell what this was but it looked sort of like a plane. It was really small though and I couldn't see where a pilot would sit.

Re: If you are ever in Tucson you gotta check this out....
We have super slow internet that routinely kicks me off so I didn't finish my post about the Air & Space Musuem, I'm gonna try to finish now.
Some of the planes on display on the museum grounds are huge!
It's kind of hard to tell how big they are from these pics so I took one as Ron walked under the nose so you would have something to compare to.
This is one of the stranger looking planes on display.
I liked this one because of the 2 propellers.
This helicoptor can fold up its wings so it doesn't take up as much space.
Another helicoptor.
This was the coolest looking helicoptor on display.
